Penn State Mont Alto Softball ended their winning streak against Penn College on Thursday. With a 9-0 record going into the game, Mont Alto fell short 4-2 for their first loss of the season. It was also the first loss of the season for sophomore pitcher Kristyan Gates (Hanover, PA/Hanover). Gates pitched six innings, allowing only four hits, walking one, and striking out five. On offense, Mont Alto was not as aggressive as usual but still had hits to bring in the runs. Sharielle Wray (Orrstown, PA/Juniata) cracked a triple and scored one of the two runs for Mont Alto. Alicia Morgan (Mount Union, PA/Mount Union) continued to get one base, with a double, and an RBI.
The second game was a different story for Mont Alto. At the top of the first, Mont Alto scored two runs right away, but Penn College did the same at the bottom of the first. After three runs in the third for Mont Alto and only one for Penn College, Mont Alto had a powerful fourth inning scoring seven runs, taking the lead by nine. The Wildcats only scored one run in the bottom of the fourth. The game ended in five innings, Mont Alto 12, Penn College 4.
The bats were moving for Mont Alto this game. Wray with three RBIs and Morgan with two hits, scoring one run, one RBI and a triple, were leading in the stats for the day. Laura Dell (Shippensburg, PA/Shippensburg) continues to shine on offense, two hits, two runs, two RBIs and one double for the game. Senior Sara Replogle (Gardeners, PA/Carlisle) brought home two runs, hit a double and a triple to help the 12-4 win. Gates continues to find her home on the mound, with no walks, striking out one and allowing only four runs off of three hits.
Mont Alto, 10-1 will face Penn State Beaver on Sunday April 17th at home for a 2:00 p.m. double header.
