Mont Alto Athletics Captures First-Ever PSUAC Virtual Challenge Cup
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Penn State Mont Alto won the first-ever PSUAC Virtual Challenge Cup held during the fall semester, finishing with 273 total points to best runner-up Penn State Beaver by 30 points.
The Virtual Challenge Cup was created in the fall 2020 semester to provide fun and competitive opportunities for PSUAC student-athletes dealing with the postponement of their normal sport seasons due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Cup included an NFL combine-style competition, 22 sport-specific activities along with three social media challenges. The event kicked off in September with the PSUAC Combine and ended with a Viral Video challenge in November.
Beaver built a solid lead after the Combine as five of their teams finished at the top in their respective events. Mont Alto used the sport-specific activities to catch-up, winning half of those contests, including four of the six baseball/softball contests. Penn State Brandywine and Penn State Fayette each won three sport-specific events, the second most behind Mont Alto. Fayette and Brandywine finished third and fourth, respectively, in the overall total. New Kensington rounded-out the top five.
Mont Alto won the baseball home run derby, men's soccer agility test, women's soccer agility test, women's soccer juggling, men's basketball 3-point contest, women's basketball dribbling challenge, baseball trash can challenge, softball two-ball, women's soccer dizzy PK and tied for first in the baseball two-ball challenge.
Individual winners of events included: Darrius Bush, Joel Minicozzi, McKenna Dare, River Terry, John Halbrendt, Nicole Jones, Adrian Casey, Grace Banfe, Sarah Mackey, Chelsea Cover, William Krcelic, Kyah Rucker, Cameron Frazier, McKenna Sas and Matt Huston. Overall standings from the competition can be found below.
