USCAA Baseball Championship: #2 Apprentice 6, #3 Penn State Mont Alto 2
DUBOIS, Pa.- After a 6-4 defeat to Apprentice on Thursday to force an if necessary championship game on Friday, Apprentice got the best of Mont Alto on Friday 6-2 to win the 2026 USCAA National Championship. For Mont Alto, their season finishes as USCAA runner-up for the second straight year after falling to Salem University in 2025.
Apprentice scored in each of the first four innings, stringing together base hits and scratching runs across in the early going. Mont Alto cut the deficit to 2-1 in the third when Carter Fogal plated James Sibert with a RBI single. Apprentice would respond in the fourth inning with three runs. Isaac McAllister and Jett Winslow had the key hits in the inning as the Builders led 6-1 after four innings.
James Sibert homered in the top of the fifth inning to trim the deficit to 6-2, but that would be as close at the Nittany Lions would get as Grant Stratton closed the door, striking out each batter faced in the top of the seventh inning.
James Sibert, Garrett Worth and Carter Fogal paced the Mont Alto offensive effort with two hits a piece. Fogal started on the hill for Mont Alto, going three innings and scattering seven hits while allowing two earned runs. Landon Turner had the most hits for the Builders with three. Starter Brayden Hayes went six strong innings while striking out nine Mont Alto batters.
