Flemister headlines USCAA basketball award winners, Schenzel awarded coach of the year

On Sunday evening, the United States Collegiate Athletic Association announced its national award winners. Senior guard Quintyn Flemister was named both the Division II Player of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year.

Schenzel named Coach of the Year

Penn State Mont Alto men's basketball head coach Jack Schenzel was awarded the Division II National Coach of the Year following his team's strong season in 2021-22. Penn State Mont Alto won the PSUAC West Division with an 18-1 conference record, losing in the semifinals to Penn State Brandywine 65-56. Penn State Mont Alto was recently named the top overall seed in the upcoming USCAA National Tournament taking place in Richmond, VA on March 7-10.

Flemister, Bush, Williams named All-Americans

Flemister was also named a 1st Team All-American, averaging 14.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Darrius Bush joined Flemister on the first team following a strong season averaging a team-high 16.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 2.9 assists per contest.

Cameron Williams was named a 2nd team All-American by the USCAA following a season where he averaged 13.2 points, 7.8 rebounds and four assists per game.

Three women's basketball players earn USCAA All-Academic Team honors:

Madison Bishop, Autumn Fischer and Colette Salyers were named members of the USCAA All-Academic team. All three have maintained a 3.5 GPA or higher during their sophomore, junior or senior seasons.

Penn State Mont Alto will open the men's basketball USCAA National Championships with its quarterfinal contest against the winner of Southwestern Adventist and Kent State Tuscarawas. The quarterfinal contest will take place at Richard Bland College Tuesday, March 8 at 4 p.m.
