Men's Hoops wins both games at Beaver Holiday Tournament
Men's Basketball: Penn State Mont Alto 65, Community College of Beaver County 64
MONACA, Pa.- Mont Alto men's basketball traveled west over the weekend to take part in the Penn State Beaver Holiday Tournament. After a tightly contested contest, Mont Alto prevailed in the end winning 65-64. Veron Talla led Mont Alto with a double-double recording 20 points and 11 rebounds. Saihou Mbergan added 14 points and 8 rebounds in the winning effort. Mont Alto found itself down late 57-49 and battled all the way back to tie the game at 57-57 with 6:06 left on a pair of Talla free throws. Down 64-63, Sam Larbi made a layup with 1:00 remaining to provide the game winning basket.
Men's Basketball: Penn State Mont Alto 75, Christendom 60
MONACA, Pa.- Mont Alto took on a familar foe in USCAA opponent Christendom College on Saturday afternoon. Richard Burke was the leading scorer on Saturday for Mont Alto with 17 points and 5 rebounds. Veron Talla recorded his second double-double of the weekend with 13 points and 15 rebounds. Lawson Hopkins got the spot start for Mont Alto and delivered 12 points and 7 rebounds in 25 minutes of action.
Four of the five Christendom starters were in double-digits with John Fowler leading the way with 12 points. The Mont Alto defense played a pivotal role in the game by holding Christendom to 34.9% from the field shooting.
Up Next: Mont Alto will enjoy the holiday break and be back in action against Pitt-Bradford. The away contest is on Saturday January 10 at 1pm.
