Men's Hoops Bests Schuylkill 87-80
Men's Basketball: Penn State Mont Alto 87, Penn State Schuylkill 80
Schuylkill Haven, Pa.- Lawson Hopkins provided a much needed spark for Mont Alto on Saturday afternoon, recording a 20 point, 10 rebound double-double as Mont Alto deafeated Penn State Schuylkill 87-80. Saihou Mbergan (14), Veron Talla (12), Jonathan Pang (10) and Vincent Frene (10) were the others in double-digit scoring for Mont Alto. Amir Gray was the leading scorer for Schuylkill with 24 points and eight boards.
Mont Alto took control of the first half, shooting 41% from the floor and holding the opposition to 34% as they lead 42-26 at the break.
Following a Saihou Mbergan three point play early in the second half, Mont Alto led by 22 points at 56-34. Schuylkill spent much of the second half outside of double-digits until Lee Newton hit a pair of free throws which saw Schuylkill down just nine at 77-69 with just under five minutes to play. Newton hit a jumper possessions later as Schuylkill trailed 78-73. Mont Alto sealed the deal at the end to win the much anticipated rematch of the PSUAC playoffs with a 87-80 victory.
