Hopkins continues strong play, Mont Alto holds off LV 67-62
Men's Basketball: Penn State Mont Alto 67, Penn State Lehigh Valley 62
MONT ALTO, Pa.- Mont Alto men's basketball returned home for the first time in 48 days on Saturday, playing host to Lehigh Valley. After getting down early, Mont Alto rallied to pick up a 67-62 victory to improve to 17-5 overall and 10-3 in the PSUAC. Lawson Hopkins paced Mont Alto with 18 points as he went 7 for 7 from the foul line. Richard Burke and Veron Talla were the other two players in double-figures with 12 points each. Lehigh Valley was led by 15 point efforts from Emmanuel Kenyi and CJ Santos.
After Mont Alto led 8-7 early, Lehigh Valley went on a run to push the advantage to 17-8. Saihou Mbergan ended the five minute scoring drought with a pair of free throws. Following a pair of Santos free throws, Vincent Frene got Mont Alto within two points as they trailed 26-24 with 2:13 remaining in the half. Richard Burke nailed a pair at the charity stripe as Mont Alto took a 29-26 lead into the locker room.
Lehigh Valley had Mont Alto's number for most of the second half until the second part of the half. With Mont Alto ahead 57-55, Joshua Santiago nailed a three with 4:14 left to put the visitors up one. Sam Larbi later hit both of his free throws and Richard Burke connected on a three pointer to seal the game for good. Mont Alto went on to win 67-62.
The name of the game on Saturday was the free throw line. Mont Alto shot 80% as a team as they went 28 for 35.
