Mont Alto Softball Racks Up Two More Wins at Greater Allegheny

MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto softball team improved to 3-1 overall in the 2021 season with a pair of road wins over PSU Greater Allegheny on Sunday. Kirsten Dell (Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford) tossed a gem in the first game only allowing four hits in the 2-1 win and the Mont Alto bats came alive in the nightcap to power the team to an 8-2 victory.

Penn State Mont Alto 2, Penn State Greater Allegheny 1 (F)

• Dell put together her best collegiate performance to date for her first win of the season in the pitching circle. The freshman struck out nine opponents while only allowing four hits. The lone run of the game scored because of a PSUMA fielding error.
• The score remained tied until the top of the fifth inning. The Nittany Lions loaded the bases up and with two outs, Greater Allegheny had two straight errors allowing McKenna Sas (Canyon County, Calif. / Canyon County) and Destiny Hall (McConnellsburg, Pa. / McConnellsburg) to cross home plate.
• Destiny Hall (McConnellsburg, Pa. / McConnellsburg) finished the first game 2-for-3 including a sacrifice fly.

Penn State Mont Alto 8, Penn State Greater Allegheny 2 (F)

• Freshman infielder Emily Sicinski (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) smashed a three-run homer in the top of the first as Mont Alto quickly built a 4-0 lead. PSU Greater Allegheny plated one-run in the bottom half of the frame with an RBI single from their catcher Christina Pasinski.
• Mont Alto responded with a run of its own when McKenna Sas (Canyon County, Calif. / Canyon County) sent a double to deep center field that scored Kirsten Dell (Hanover, Pa. / New Oxford). Sicinski plated her fourth RBI of the game in the third inning with a sacrifice fly and Mont Alto led 6-1.
• The final two PSUMA runs scored in the seventh inning where Chelsea Cover (Waynesboro, Pa. / Waynesboro Area) slapped an RBI double to left field and Payton Watkins (Robersdale, Pa. / Forbes Road) drove in the final Mont Alto run on a fielder's choice.

The Nittany Lions return to action on Wednesday, March 24 as they are scheduled to host Penn State New Kensington for a doubleheader. Game times are slated for 2 and 4 p.m.
