Game One: Penn State Mont Alto 2, Penn State New Kensington 1
NEW KENSINGTON, PA- Mont Alto softball traveled to New Kensington on Monday to start PSUAC competition. Kira Weikert pitched seven strong innings, allowing just three hits and the Mont Alto offense came up clutch to pull out a 2-1 victory in game one. Cammble Sterner put Mont Alto up early on a RBI single which scored Hailey Spielman. Piper Zufall plated Linda Shepard in the bottom of the second inning to tie the score at 1-1.
With one out in the top of the fourth inning, Lauren Allison singled. The lineup flipped to the top with two outs and Terri Williams plated Allison on a RBI double. The Mont Alto defense would stay strong in the final three innings, only allowing two hits the rest of the way to preserve the 2-1 win.
Game Two: Penn State New Kensington 8, Penn State Mont Alto 2
NEW KENSINGTON, PA- New Kensington got the best of Mont Alto in the second game of the doubleheader, scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning as Mont Alto cut an early deficit to just one run at 2-1. Antonia Velasquez was the key offensively for NK as she went 2-4 with four RBI's. Brookelyn Kotch picked up the win for the home team as she went seven innings and struck out four batters. Lauren Allison and Sarah Devilbiss each recorded two hits for Mont Alto and Cammble Sterner had a double.
