Softball finishes strong, earns #3 seed at PSUAC Championships
Penn State Mont Alto 12, Penn State Hazleton 1
HAZLETON, Pa.- Penn State Mont Alto traveled to Hazleton after taking two games from Scranton on Thursday to close out the regular season. Utilizing six runs in the top of the seventh, Mont Alto bested Hazleton in game one 12-1. Hailey Spielman paced Mont Alto with three hits, going 3 for 4. Kira Weikert, Abigail Cunningham and Aiyana Young each had two hits. Weikert went the distance in the circle, striking out nine batters in seven innings of work.
Sarah Devilbiss kicked off the six runs seventh inning with a two run home run. Kira Weikert followed that up with a RBI double to left field and Abigail Cunningham scored two on her RBI double. Aiyana Young plated Cunningham on a RBI groundout to make the score 12-1.
Penn State Mont Alto 15, Penn State Hazleton 0
HAZLETON, Pa.- Mont Alto kept up its offensive ways by plating seven in the top of the third inning on their way to a 15-0 victory over Hazleton to secure the #3 seed at the upcoming PSUAC tournament at DuBois which starts on Friday. Terri Williams led the way with a four for five performance with a double and a triple.
Alexis Thompson picked up the win for Mont Alto as she went five innings and struck out six. Thompson allowed just one hit in 18 batters faced.
Aiyana Young doubled to start off the top of the third, scoring Lauren Allison to move ahead 6-0. Terri Williams later plated Young to be up 8-0. Rachel Alleman plated Alyssa Wiles on her RBI double later in the inning. Sarah Devilbiss would cap off the seven run inning by scoring Alleman on a RBI single to left.
