Softball defeats Fayette 4-1 to advance in SCWS
USCAA Small College World Series Elimination Game: #4 Penn State Mont Alto 4, #8 Penn State Fayette 1
DUBOIS, Pa.- Penn State Mont Alto softball advanced in the loser's bracket of the USCAA Small College World Series by winning a rematch of the May 3rd PSUAC Championship contest against Penn State Fayette by a final of 4-1. The win advances Mont Alto to play seventh seed Bay Path University at noon on Wednesday. Alyssa Wiles, Abigail Cunningham and Lauren Allison paced the offense for Mont Alto with two hits each. Kira Weikert picked up the win in the circle with a complete game, five hits allowed and two strikeouts.
Hailey Spielman led off the bottom of the fourth inning with a triple to left field as Mont Alto hoped to strike first in the scoreless affair through three and a half innings. Abigail Cunningham scored Spielman two batters later on a single to center field. Lauren Allison slapped a single through the left side to score Cammble Sterner who earlier singled on a bunt. The big hit in the inning came from Wiles, who plated two with her single through the left side.
Kendra Firestone was able to start a Fayette rally in the top of the sixth inning as she walked with the bases loaded to score Kaylee Doppelheuer. Haylee Speicher ran into a misfortune as she hit a line drive back to Kira Weikert who snared it and picked off the runner at third to end the threat.
Fayette would go down 1-2-3 in the top of the seventh as Mont Alto advanced to face Bay Path on Wednesday at noon from Heindl Field in DuBois, Pa.
