Perez scores 26, WBB drops opener 58-55 to FCC
Women's Basketball: Frederick C.C. 58, Penn State Mont Alto 55
MONT ALTO, Pa.- Mont Alto women's basketball kicked off their season Saturday afternoon as they traveled to Frederick C.C. in non-conference action. Following a three pointer by Brooklyn Merryman to cut the deficit to 56-55, Mont Alto was unable to retake the lead late and lost 58-55.
Dariana Perez contributed a well-rounded stat line with 26 points, 10 rebounds and five assists to go along with three steals. Brooklyn Merryman, Shanez Morales and Amelia Fouch each contributed seven points and Victoria Kalp was right behind with six points. Trinity Lindblade was the leading scorer for the Cougars with 26 points and five boards.
With the score tied at 20-20 in the second quarter, Mont Alto went on a quick 6-0 spurt to push the lead to six points. The Nittany Lions went into the half ahead by one with the score 30-29.
In the third quarter, Mont Alto shot 53.8% from the field and held FCC to just 41% to head into the final frame ahead 45-43.
Mont Alto's final lead of the contest came at 50-48 when Perez made a 3 pointer with 5:58 remaining. With the score 56-55 late in the fourth quarter, Taliyah Alexander made the only two successful FT attempts for FCC in the quarter to move ahead by three points.
