Balanced attack leads Women's hoops to first win in 2026
Women's Basketball: Penn State Mont Alto 80, Penn State Scranton 44
DUNMORE, Pa.- Penn State Mont Alto women's basketball opened their 2026 schedule with a 80-44 victory over PSUAC opponent Penn State Scranton on Tuesday evening. The win moved the team to a 7-4 mark overall and 6-2 in the PSUAC. Dariana Perez (23) and Victoria Kalp (22) led the scoring for Mont Alto. Amelia Fouch (16) and Shanez Morales (11) were the other scorers in double-digits. Makayla Barry-Robinson had a near double-double with eight points and seven rebounds. Mont Alto held Scranton to just 12.5% shooting in the first quarter and was strong defensively throughout.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mont Alto went on an early 5-0 run to open the game capped off by an Amelia Fouch three pointer. Scranton would quickly tie the game with a Karma Paez three and a jumper by Anaja Jackson. Mont Alto finished out the quarter on a 13-0 run to go ahead 18-5. Mont Alto held Scranton to just 25% shooting in the second quarter and led 39-15 at the break. Kalp provided the offensive spark in the second half as she scored 14 of her 22 points in the second half.
Mont Alto shot 40.8% from the field and held Scranton to 25% overall. The visitors also held the edge on the boards with a 46-26 advantage.
