Fourth Quarter Surge Powers Mont Alto over Schuylkill 49-40
Women's Basketball: Penn State Mont Alto 49, Penn State Schuylkill 40
Schuylkill Haven, Pa.- Mont Alto women's basketball used a fourth quarter run to best Schuylkill 49-40 on Saturday afternoon in conference action. With the win, Mont Alto improved to 8-5 overall and 7-3 in the PSUAC. Dariana Perez led Mont Alto with 15 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals in the winning effort. Victoria Kalp also scored double-digits for Mont Alto with 13 points on 5 of 15 shooting with four rebounds and four steals.
The Mont Alto defense was up to the early challenge of an 11am start, holding Schuylkill to just three points in the opening frame and 1 of 10 shooting. Mont Alto continued that early momentum and took a 24-18 lead heading into the half.
Katelyn Otto hit a three for Schuylkill to trim Mont Alto's advantage to 27-26 with 4:47 to play in the third period. Meagan Hauser would help Schuylkill take the lead on the very next possession 28-27. With the score tied late at 30-30, Dariana Perez went on a 5-0 run herself to push Mont Alto ahead 35-30 after three quarters of play.
Victoria Kalp made a basket with extended Mont Alto's lead to double-digits at 41-30 with 6:48 remaining. Mont Alto hung tough to win the PSUAC contest 49-40.
