HAZLETON, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto volleyball team halted a two-game losing skid with a pair of victories over PSU Hazleton and PSU Lehigh Valley in a pair of Saturday PSUAC matchups. Mont Alto improved to 11-5 overall and 9-3 in conference action with its pair of three-set victories.
Mont Alto attacked throughout against Hazleton scoring a 25-8 set one win, 25-10 set two victory and 25-17 in the pivotal third game. Overall, the Lions had 33 kills and were led by Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Pa. / South Hagerstown) who had a season-high 15 kills and eight service aces. Sophomore Katelyn Muse (Hagerstown, Md. / Boonsboro) also had a big match for Mont Alto with 29 assists, seven aces and four kills.
The Lions kept it rolling against Lehigh Valley in the Dr. Thomas M. Caccese Gymnasium earning 25-12, 26-24, 25-10 set wins. Muse had another strong match for Mont Alto with 32 assists, two kills, seven digs and two aces. Courtney Stump (Greencastle, Pa. / Greencastle Antrim) and Alexis Shaffer (Hagerstown, Pa. / South Hagerstown) tied for a game-high 10 kills each. Alexis Smith (Carlisle, Pa. / Carlisle) had seven kills and Allison Meyers (Greencastle, Pa. / James Buchanan) had 13 digs.
Penn State Mont Alto returns to action tomorrow with a pair of matches with Penn State Scranton and Penn State Wilkes-Barre. Game times are slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
