VB ousted in four sets in PSUAC Semifinals
PSUAC Volleyball Semifinals: Penn State Shenango 3, Penn State Mont Alto 1 (24-26, 22-25, 25-18, 18-25)
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State Mont Alto volleyball took on Penn State Shenango in PSUAC semifinal action on Monday evening from Recreation Hall, Shenango got the best of Mont Alto ending their championship appearance hopes in four sets. With the first set tied 24-24, Shenango capitalized on back-to-back attack errors from Elizabeth Trella to take the first set 26-24.
Both teams were tied up 19-19 in set two, but Shenango extended that lead to 22-19 behind kills from Sydney Ward and Taylor Burns. A service ace from Gabby Villanueva Santos sealed the second set for Shenango 25-22.
Mont Alto took early advantage in set three with a 11-6 lead. Shenango battled back, tying things up with a kill from Taylor Burns from Izzy Mauro to tie action at 12. Mont Alto controlled action on Ashlyn Vandenbree's serve as she recorded back-to-back service aces and a kill by Elizabeth Trella to move ahead 18-14. A kill from Abigail Wagner had Mont Alto taking the set to only be down two sets to one.
Behind Santos' serve in set four, Shenango got out to a 8-0 advantage and Mont Alto recorded three straight attack errors late in the rally. Shenango would advance to Tuesday's championship after taking set four 25-18.
Taylor Burns (14) and Savana Shipman (13) led the Shenango attack in kills. Jillian Palumbo and Shipman each recorded 15 digs on the defensive end.
Trella paced Mont Alto with 17 kills on 36 attack attempts. Brooklynn Sheridan had 22 assists and Ashlyn Vandenbree totaled 20 digs.
