MONT ALTO, Pa. – The Penn State Mont Alto baseball program released its 40-game schedule for the 2019 season, announced by head coach Shawn Kissel.
The Nittany Lions will play their first four games away from home, beginning with a two-game series against NCAA Division III Southern Virginia University on Saturday, February 9. The team will then have a week to prepare for The Apprentice School in which they will play a doubleheader against the Builders.
"This year's schedule is very competitive, but we feel good about it," remarked Mont Alto head coach Shawn Kissel. "The goal is for the non-conference games to prepare us for our PSUAC slate, and by the end of the season hopefully we can make a postseason run."
Mont Alto will play its home-opener against nearby Hagerstown Community College on Saturday, February 23 in a doubleheader. One week later, the Lions make their annual trip to South Carolina for Spring Break where they compete in the Ripken Experience. The Lions are slated to face Chesapeake College (March 2), Olney Central College (March 2), a doubleheader against College of DuPage (March 3), a doubleheader with PSUAC West rival Penn State Schuylkill (March 4) and close out the trip against Penn State Wilkes-Barre (March 5) in a single, nine-inning matchup.
After returning from South Carolina, Mont Alto hosts a string of tough games against Dickenson College (March 6) as well as a doubleheader against St. Clair Community College on Friday, March 15. PSUMA will then travel right down the road to Wilson College for a nine-inning game on March 18.
A three-game series with Penn State Beaver signals the start of conference play with Mont Alto hosting a nine-inning contest on March 22 and play a doubleheader at PSU Beaver one day later. The Lions travel to Chesapeake College (March 26) and host Gettysburg College (March 28) in a pair of non-conference contests. They then travel to Penn State New Kensington on Friday, March 29 and will complete the weekend series a day later when New Kensington comes to town for a doubleheader.
Mont Alto begins the month of April with an away doubleheader against Christendom College on Wednesday, April 3. The squad will then return to conference play with a home-and-away series with Penn State Greater Allegheny (April 5-6). A doubleheader against Central Penn College on Tuesday, April 9 sets the stage for a three-game series with reigning PSUAC and USCAA Champions, Penn State DuBois (April 13-14). PSUMA then plays nine-inning contests against Juniata College (April 16) and Penn State Fayette (April 19) in its final home game of the season.
PSUMA squares off against Penn State Fayette for a road doubleheader on Saturday, April 20 and conclude its regular season slate against Penn State York on April 24.
